Residential burglaries, The Spinneys, Enstone

Unknown offenders have gained entry to two homes in this area. Both homes were targeted via the rear the rear of the property by either kicking in the back door or smashing windows with a brick. Thieves are targeting homes believed to be empty, stealing cash and jewellery. Opportunist criminals will often look for simple signs that a property is unoccupied, such as unopened curtains during the day, post building up behind the door or an empty driveway. One of the best ways to help prevent this type of crime is to make your home look lived in by using timer lights, asking somebody to check the property and keeping the house looking active while you are away.

On the same evening there was also a burglary in Charlbury and in Chipping Norton

It appears that in most cases, it was obvious that the homes were unoccupied at the time. 

If you are out for the day or away on holiday make your home looked lived in!

To reduce the risk of burglary and vehicle theft, we strongly encourage all residents to review and implement the following security measures:

At Home: 

· Double-lock front and back doors (if your lock allows) and ensure window locks are engaged, and remove keys.

·  Consider installing a home alarm system and ensure it’s set when you are out.

·  Use doorbell cameras or CCTV systems to monitor activity outside your home, including the rear of your property.

·  Keep car keys and valuables out of sight and away from entry points (avoid leaving them near the front door or windows).

·  Consider installing a letterbox cage or restrictor to prevent fishing for keys.

·  Use timer switches on lights to make your home look occupied.

. A strong community is one of the best crime prevention tools we have. Keep an eye out for your neighbours, especially those who may be elderly, vulnerable, or away from home. 

Don’t forget to secure the rear of your property. Burglars will often target side gates, back gardens and rear doors as they are usually hidden from public view. Ensure gates are locked, fences are secure, sheds and garages are protected, and consider security lighting or CCTV to make your property a less attractive target.
